Traffic diversions at a key New Plymouth intersection are about to switch over as construction of a roundabout progresses.

Contractors have been building a roundabout and traffic thresholds at the Frankley/Brois/Waimea intersection since 11 May, with road closures on two of the four approaches to the intersection.

From tomorrow (Wednesday) those closed roads will reopen to traffic, while the other two roads will be closed to enable the second half of the construction to take place.

“The changeover will see road closures on Brois Street from Govett Avenue to the construction site, and on the southern section of Frankley Road from Fernleigh Street to the construction site,” says Manager Roading Max Aves.

“Homeowners on those sections of roads will be able to access their properties, but there will be no through-traffic.

“At the same time Waimea Street and the northern section of Frankley Road will reopen and will carry two-way traffic during the construction period.

“We ask drivers to avoid this intersection if they can – and if they can’t, to keep an eye open for the diversion signs.”

Brois Street and Frankley Road are due to reopen on 30 June, weather permitting.
