Police wish to advise motorists travelling on SH35 north from Wairoa, to take extreme care due to flooding and debris on the road.

Since 2am this morning police have been advised of trees across the road in numerous locations on SH35 between Wairoa and north of Hicks Bay.

The Metservice has predicted heavy rain on the east coast which may cause surface flooding and trees falling across the roads.

All drivers are asked to drive to the conditions and take extreme care. If possible, motorists should avoid driving on the road north of Ruatoria as this is the worst affected area.
