Alert: Diesel Spill in Eastern District, 11:25am

Police are asking all motorists who are travelling South on State Highway 2, Wharerata between Maraetaha Road and the Wharerata Lookout to take caution.

Currently there is a diesel spill covering this length of roadway.

There is a substantial quantity of diesel involved in this spill. The track of this spill ranges from just over a 300mm wide down to a few drops, then it starts again.

This spill could be coming from a heavy motor vehicle that has developed a split in a fuel tank.

The roading contractors are on their way to clean up the spill but this could take some time due to the volume of fuel involved.
