Pre-sale ‘Early Bird’ tickets have sold out in record time for New Zealand’s most popular 3-day music festival, Rhythm & Vines, taking place this year from 29 December 2009 to 1 January 2010. The allocated ‘Early Bird’ tickets sold in just one day to database fans, even with the festival still seven months out and the line-up yet to be announced.

A limited number of ‘Pruning’ tickets, which were destined for public sale, went on sale immediately after ‘Early Bird’ tickets and are similarly being snapped up at an unprecedented rate. The ‘Pruning’ tickets are also very close to selling out, leading to overall ticket sales for Rhythm & Vines being well ahead of previous year’s sales at the same time last year.

The festival’s official campsite BW Campgrounds has also experienced remarkable sales, selling more than half of its 13,000 camping capacity within the first month on sale.

Festival Director Paxton Talbot says, “We haven’t even officially launched sales yet. This stands out as a shining example that the Rhythm and Vines week and the shift to the 3 day festival format offers an experience second to none. In a time of financial doom and gloom, people are still keen to have a good time, and invest emotionally in our events which ensure a stand-out summer and New Years experience. This is also a bright spot for the music industry in general as it shows that in today’s volatile market live music events done well in New Zealand do not only survive, but can also continue to expand. It should be a good year for NZ festivals.”

The first announcement of the 2009 Rhythm & Vines line-up will be made in July at the official festival launch.

Rhythm & Vines is held in Gisborne at Waiohika Estate - a stunning vineyard 10 minutes away from the city and surf. The venue is world class, with multiple acts performing over numerous stages throughout the three days. Promising an exciting, upbeat vibe in an idyllic setting, the experience of Rhythm & Vines is something people are undoubtedly keen to keep coming back to year after year.
