Charlesworth Wins Three International Titles
Waitakere 17-year-old Luke Charlesworth is the toast of badminton as he won all three titles on offer at the NZ Junior Badminton International at Gillies Ave in Auckland.
Charlesworth beat Counties Praveen Tayalan in the men’s singles final in a drawn out three game final which took 45 minutes.
In the men’s doubles he then teamed up with North Harbour’s Brock Matheson to defeat Josh Curry(Manawatu) and Dhanny Oud(Auckland) for the title in straight games. To cap off a good day of results Charlesworth and Mary O’Connor(Waitakere) had a straight game win over Matheson and Waikato’s Amanda Brown in the mixed final which took 26 minutes to complete.
The women’s singles had Australian Victoria Na defeating Auckland’s Victoria Cheng 21-13 21-14.
The women’s doubles saw the duo of Anona Pak(North Harbour) and Waikato’s Madeline Stapleton win a three game battle against Counties Mikayla Moore and Australian Na.
The US5,000 Auckland Badminton International has its finals on Sunday at the same venue.
