Porirua police say they still need key information from the public in the investigation of two young women murdered in Titahi Bay yesterday.

The victims were 16 year old Jashana Maree Robinson and Joelene Rangimaria Edmonds, a 21 year old mother of two. Ms Robinson was a boarder at Ms Edmonds' home.

'We've received some positive responses so far but we're still keen to hear from anyone else who may have information,' say Detective Inspector Shane Cotter. 'The public may be able to add something further to what we already know, so it's important that we speak with them.'

Mr Cotter is especially interested in sightings of a male carrying a baseball bat, walking between Tawa and Titahi Bay on Friday 26 June between 6am and 10am.

Wellington district Police staff and ESR specialists are continuing a scene examination at the house. The examination is not expected to finish for several days. The bodies of the two women were removed from the house this afternoon as family members said a karakia.

Post-mortem examinations are now underway but results not likely for several days.

A male appeared in Porirua District Court this morning on several charges and was remanded in custody.
