WELLINGTON CITY

Police are appealing for witnesses and any information concerning an Aggravated Robbery that occurred between 4:45am and 5:20am on Sunday 28th June 2009 in Webb Street, Wellington.

Detective Sergeant Damian MURPHY of Wellington police said 'The 19 year old Caucasian victim was walking home from work and reached the entrance to the Hire Master car park in Webb Street when he was approached by a male Maori offender'.

'The offender approached the victim from behind and punched the victim without warning. It was a cowardly and unprovoked attack'.

'The victim tried to run away but was chased and punched by the offender'.

A second offender joined the first one and they forced the victim to hand over his cellphone and I-Pod before forcing the victim to walk with them to a National Bank cash machine in Wallace Street'.

'The two Maori offenders forced the victim to walk between them from Webb Street, up Hopper Street then through the Arlington Apartment complex to the bank cash machine at the Massey University building in Wallace Street'.

'The victim was forced to put his Eftpos card and PIN number into the cashpoint machine before the offenders made off on foot'.

'The suspects were last seen walking at intersection of Bidwell, Taranaki and Wallace Streets, towards Newtown'.

'The victim was shaken and bruised during the assault'.
The offenders are described as;

Offender 1: Male Maori, 6'2 - 6'4' tall, 19 - 20 years old, skinny build, black hair in a ponytail, Black goatee beard and wispy moustache. Wearing a black cap with a pattern on the front of it, baggy black pants and a dark colored hooded top.
Offender 2: Male Maori. 5'7' to 5'9' tall. 16 years old. Average build, Round face. No facial hair. Wearing a dark colored baseball cap, an old, baggy, dark colored sweatshirt and dark colored track pants


Detective Sergeant MURPHY said 'There were other people around in the area at the time. People may remember seeing the Caucasian victim walking between the two Maori offenders between Webb Street/Hopper Street and the bank cash machine in Wallace Street.
