Street Robbery in Wellington District,

WELLINGTON

Police are appealing for witnesses and any information concerning a Robbery that occurred between 11.30 and 11.40pm on Saturday 28th June 2009 on Bannister Avenue in Johnsonville, Wellington.
 
Detective Constable Matt WASSON of Wellington police said 'The 17 year old Caucasian victim was walking home from a friends place when he was approached by a Maori or Polynesian male offender'.
 
'This male punched the victim in the head without warning causing him to fall to the ground. This was a sudden and unexpected attack'.
 
The offender demanded money from the victim and as he stood up, he again punched him in the side of the head.
 
The victim handed over a small amount of money, and as the offender was distracted by what may have been a passing motorist, he managed to run off.
 
'The offender was last seen walking along Bannister Avenue.'
 
'The victim was shaken and bruised during the assault, but fortunately only received minor injuries.'
The offender is described as;
 
Offender: Male Maori or Polynesian, of 5'11' - 6' tall, 16 - 21 years old, of stocky build, black hair and a black messy moustache, and was unshaven.
 
Wearing a white cap, a big puffy type jacket which was long down to mid thigh. It also had a hood and full length zip.
 
'Detective Constable WASSON is appealing for any members of the public who may have witnessed this assault or has information to the identity of the offender.
