Street Robbery in Wellington District
Police are appealing for witnesses and any information concerning a Robbery that occurred between midnight and 3:20am on Thursday 26th June 2009 in Cuba Street, Wellington.
Detective Sergeant Damian MURPHY of Wellington police said 'The 19 year old female Caucasian victim was walking along Cuba Street after a night out in central Wellington. While walking along the section of Cuba Street between the intersections of Vivian and Abel Smith Streets, the victim was suddenly knocked to the ground by an offender, from behind'.
'The offender stole a cell phone from the victim's handbag before making off on foot'.
'The attack was from behind and the female victim was knocked to the ground without warning. It was an unprovoked assault on a young female who suffered grazes and bruises as a result '.
Detective Sergeant MURPHY said 'It was a matter of luck that the victim was not injured more seriously in what was a thuggish attack'.
'A passing female motorist stopped in her car and comforted the victim. This good Samaritan also gave the victim a lift to her home in central Wellington. Police would like this person to come forward. They may hold important information that could assist the enquiry'.
