Death investigated in New Plymouth

New Plymouth Police are investigating the death of a 21 year old New Plymouth man found dead in a house fire on Bulteel Street at 7.40PM on Friday 10 July 2009.

The name of the deceased has not been released and a full investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire and the subsequent cause of the young mans death.

The scene is being guarded overnight and will be thoroughly examined on Saturday 11 July 2009 by ESR Scientists, Detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and Fire Safety Officers.

A number of occupants in the house at the time of the fire have been assisting Police with their enquiries and will continue to do so throughout the day.

The matter has been referred to the Coroner and at this stage the fire is being treated as suspicious until we determine otherwise.
