Flooding risk closes road near Gisborne

Police are advising that Matawai Road near Te Karaka (Gisborne area) is likely to be closed in the next few hours due to the flood risk posed by the rising Waikohu River.

Water is already covering a 30 metre stretch of Matawai Road, approximately 2kms North of the intersection of Matawai and Waihuka Roads.

Roading contractors and the Gisborne District Council are assessing the situation, although there are no houses in the immediate vicinity of the flooded area.
