Cyclist dead after colliding with a van

At approx 7.00am today (23 July 2009) a van collided with a cyclist at the intersection of Awatea Road and Carrs Road in Halswell, Chrischurch.  The male cyclist has died as a result of the injuries received in the collision.

Emergency services are still at the scene. Both Awatea Rd and Carrs Road have been closed in the area whilst police Serious Crash Investigators work at the scene.

Police are currently contacting the family of the dead man and no further comment will be made at this time.

Any person who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the police.
