Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident - 26/07/08

At 3.41am on Sunday the 26th day of July 2009 emergency services attended a motor vehicle accident on Western Hills Drive, Whangarei near the Manse Street intersection.

The vehicle has lost control and left the road. The vehicle has become airborne crossing a stream and embedded itself in the opposite bank.

The driver of the vehicle has suffered fatal injuries dieing at the scene. Three other males who were passengers in the vehicle have been taken to Whangärei Hospital with moderate injuries. One of the passengers has since been discharged from hospital.

The deceased is 17 year old Änaru Toko AHPENE of Kaikohe.

The vehicle being driven by the deceased was a 1996 Nissan Skyline GTS. Police believe that excessive speed was a major contributing factor.

There are currently two investigations commenced into this accident, a coronial inquiry and a Police inquiry.
