Robbery of Westpac Bank, St Martins, Christchurch
At 9.03 am on Thursday 30 July 2009, a male entered the Westpac Bank at St Martins. He approached the teller and presented a note which threatened that he had a handgun and demanded cash. The teller complied with his demands giving him $960, he then left the bank.
Security was alerted and chased the male to the New World supermarket where the robber got onto a silver BMX and rode off down Wades Avenue to Prossers Road.
The robber is described as a male Caucasian, clean shaven, about 180 cm tall, mid 20s. He was wearing an orange Tui Beer beanie, a black puffer jacket, long black shorts and black skate shoes.
No firearm was seen or presented and no-one was hurt in the robbery. The teller is understandably shaken by the ordeal.
