Two dead after crash overtaking

On Fri 7/08/09 at approximately 9:32pm two people have died after a car crash.

Initial reports are that a Subaru carrying five people has come into contact with a second car during an overtaking manoeuvre.

Both vehicles were travelling East on Makaraka Rd.

The Subaru has left the road and crashed into a structure on the side of the road.

Fire service appliances were called to assist at the scene.

The passengers in the Subaru, a 14 year old female and 23yr old male were killed and the driver and other passengers have suffered minor injuries.

The occupant of the second car was uninjured.

State Highway Two (Makaraka Rd) will be closed between Pilmer Road and the intersection of Main Road and Makaraka Road.

This stretch of State Highway 2 will remain closed until Police have carried out a scene examination in the morning.

The details of those killed in the crash will not be released until the next of kin have been advised.
