AOS called out, but armed man gives up

Police were called to a domestic incident at an address in Smeaton Drive, Whangarei.

The offender armed himself with 2 butcher knives when he heard that police were called and said police weren't going to take him.

When police arrived he was waiting for them in the street with the 2 knives. He refused to put the knives down and approached police with them, and was pepper sprayed.

He still refused to put the knives down and a stand-off ensued. The Armed Offender Squad were called and attended.

The offender gave himself up an hour after the incident first started. No one was injured.
