Man rams police cars trying to evade capture

A 41yr old Wanganui man will be facing a number of charges in the Wanganui District Court on Thursday after a Police pursuit in the Wanganui suburb of Gonville shortly before 8pm Wednesday night.

The man failed to stop for a Police patrol - and proceeded to ram a patrol car several times during a 5 minute pursuit.

A second patrol car sent to assist the first was also rammed - and was extensively damaged.

Police managed to stop the driver in a residential street - and he then proceeded to assault several officers who attempted to arrest him.

A Police dog was used to subdue the man at the scene.

The 41yr old man will be facing numerous driving charges - as well as charges of assaulting and resisting Police.
