Man charged after stabbing

WELLINGTON

A 17yr old man has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a knife and assault with a weapon after an early morning stabbing in Courtenay Place, Wellington.

The incident occurred at approximately 1.00am on Courtenay Place, near the intersection with Taranaki Street.

Police received three 111 calls regarding the incident - and arrived on the scene in less than a minute of the calls.

The offender was still in the vicinity and was apprehended by Police after a short foot chase along Taranaki Street.

The 21yr old victim of the stabbing received a cut to his hand which required 4 stitches. He had been out celebrating his 21st birthday when the assault occurred.

The arrested man will be appearing in the Wellington District Court on Wednesday 26 August.
