Firearms located in car at checkpoint

Police Traffic Alcohol Group staff have arrested two people and located two firearms at a Lower Hutt checkpoint.

The checkpoint was operating on Wingate Crescent, Taita, on the night of Wednesday 19 August.  The vehicle had been stopped for a routine breath test and one man was arrested on a fines warrant.  His passenger was also arrested after punching one of the arresting Police officers several times.

Police also located ammunition in the vehicle.

Both men have been remanded to appear in the Lower Hut Court on Friday 28th August, 2009.

They face a variety of charges relating to firearms, offensive weapons, assault and drugs.
