Male arrested following Newlands incident

A 33 year old male has been arrested following a domestic-related incident in Newlands, Wellington.

The male faces charges of threatening to kill, possession of cannabis and assaulting a female. He will likely appear in Court tomorrow morning.

The arrest came after a female contacted Police saying she had concerns for the safety of two children inside a house with the male. Emergency services were on standby as Police cordoned off the area and dealt with the incident.

The man emerged from the house after a speaking with Police negotiators.

No-one was hurt during the incident. The two young children who were at the house are now being cared for by their mother.
