Car v Truck leaves one dead

A 34 year old male was killed in a traffic crash. The incident occurred on Rangatira Rd about one kilometre South of Mellington Road.

At approximately 4:35pm today the car travelling South on Rangatira Rd crashed into a 4.5 tonne truck carrying eight cattle onboard travelling north.

The weather at the time was fine and this is a two lane rural asphalt road.

Initial reports indicate that the car may have crossed the centre line into the path of the truck however further enquiries are being carried out.

The male was the sole occupant of the car and there were two occupants in the truck. The occupants of the truck and the cattle were uninjured.

Details of the deceased male will not be released until the next of kin have been advised.
