At 12.06pm on Saturday the 5 September 2009, a motor cycle travelling towards Makarora from Lake Hawea township crashed approximately two kilometres south of Mead Road at "The Neck" on State Highway 6, Lake Hawea approximately 40 kilometres north-west of Wanaka.
The husband and wife were thrown from the machine and the pillion passenger died at the scene. The motorcycle rider suffered minor physical injuries.
Police can now release the name of the deceased;
Natalie Joy ANDERSON aged 42 years of Alexandra
Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw of the Central Otago Police said, "A large contingent of emergency services from around the district attended the scene, including Police, Makarora and Lake Hawea Fire Brigades, Wanaka Ambulance and a Serious Crash Investigator from Alexandra but unfortunately despite the efforts of members of the public and the emergency services Mrs Anderson could not be saved."
"Inquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing but it appears at this stage that no other vehicle was involved in the crash although the crashed machine was one of a number travelling towards the West Coast at the time."
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Wanaka Police on 03 443 7272.

It is not anticipated that any further media release will be made in the immediate future.
