Police looking to provide more effective service
Police are looking at ways and means to provide better, more efficient and more effective service in the future said Deputy Commissioner Rob Pope.
"We, along with other government agencies, are looking at how we can respond in a more effective manner and in particularly at ideas to create a victim-centred, technologically enabled and mobile service," said Mr Pope.
"There have been a number of ideas over recent years that have been identified and we felt it was timely to look more closely at these."
Mr Pope said this approach is still very much in its embryonic stage and there are a wide range of ideas which have yet to be fully considered and explored, especially in the areas of technology which would benefit front-line staff and assist them to provide a more effective service to the public.
For example, officers would have the ability to make inquiries through the use of mobile technology such as check ownership of vehicles they pull over or issue offences notices while still out on the road rather than have to return to their station to process.
"These ideas are subject to ongoing discussion within police and we are not yet at a stage where we have concrete proposals for public discussion," said Mr Pope.
