Police have arrested a 25yr old Palmerston North man after a lengthy pursuit between Foxton and Otaki in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Shortly before 3am, a bread delivery man was robbed of his truck in Foxton by a male wielding a hammer.

Police located the vehicle on State Highway One south of Foxton shortly afterwards and attempted to stop it. The driver failed to stop and lead Police on a pursuit from Foxton to Otaki, and out to Otaki Beach. Police spiked the vehicle at Otaki Beach, but the driver continued to drive the vehicle with the tyres deflating. The pursuit travelled back to State Highway One - and North again, however the offending driver eventually stopped as the vehicle became more difficult to control.

The pursuit last one hour and five minutes - but did not exceed 110km/h, due to the stolen vehicle not be capable of travelling any faster.

A 25yr old Palmerston North man will be facing numerous charges - including breach of bail, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving whilst forbidden and robbery.
