Serious crash in Wakefield

Yesterday afternoon at about 3.30pm a van travelling north towards Nelson on SH 6 Wakefield-Kohatu Highway collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction on a straight portion of road.

Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed of Nelson Police stated :
"The driver of the car, 51yr old Michelle Hook, was killed in the collision and the 30yr male driver of the van was hospitalised with serious injuries. Due to the crash State Highway 6 was closed for several hours whilst the scene was cleared and an examination was undertaken by a Police Serious Crash Investigator. There were no other occupants of either vehicle and there were no witnesses to the crash. The matter has been advised to the Coroner and Police enquiries are continuing in relation to the cause of the crash."
