Come along to a special gala day and the official reopening of Hamilton Estate Community Hall on Saturday 26 September.

The badly deteriorated hall has recently undergone a major refurbishment by Franklin District Council, after being gifted to the Council from Auckland Rugby League.

The hall’s resurrection and transfer to Council ownership was driven by the Waiuku Awhitu Community Board, who recognised the importance of the hall to the community.

Waiuku Awhitu Community Board Chair Bill Deed says, “The Waiuku Awhitu Community Board fought strongly for Council to take ownership of the hall and make it a community asset. It will be a great hub for local activities and creates a heart for Hamilton Estate.”

“Make sure you attend the fun on Saturday. The gala and official reopening of the hall starts at 10am. It will be a great event for Waiuku.”

The hall’s reopening will be celebrated with an action-packed family day, featuring gala activities, kids fun, market stalls, hangi, a free sausage sizzle, raffles and display tables from health and sports clubs. Kaumatua will open the day, with a haka from Waiuku League Club plus lots more entertainment. All welcome.

The hall is already becoming well-used, with users including Waiuku League Club, Pepi Play Group, the Healthy Fitness Group, Bev’s Busy Bodies, boxing, art classes, Get Active, touch and the OSCAR Programme for children. There is opportunity for more community groups and individuals to use the space. Call Franklin District Council’s Waiuku Service Centre between 9am – 1pm for hall bookings.
