The start of daylight savings this weekend means a shorter drinking night for those in licensed premises.

At 2am this Sunday (27 September) clocks go forward to 3am – which is closing time for licensed premises in New Plymouth District.

“It balances out over the year as licensed premises will have an extra hour’s opening time when daylight savings ended on 4 April next year,” says Manager Enforcement Lloyd Crow.

“However revellers who are out and about this Saturday evening should be aware that come 2am, all licensed premises will be closing due to daylight savings putting the clocks forward one hour.”

The police will be monitoring the opening hours of licensed premises to ensure they close at 3am daylight savings time this Sunday.
