Fatal crash in Ohakune

At approximately 3:10am on Wednesday the 23rd of September 2009 emergency services were called to a single motor vehicle crash on Goldfinch Street Ohakune.

A Southbound car has failed to take a slight bend on the main street of Ohakune crashing into a light post and raised stone edged garden.

A 19 year old male passenger died at the scene and two other male passengers, a 19 and 20 year old were taken to Whanganui hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

A Police serious crash examiner conducted a scene examination today.

The 18 year old male driver suffered minor injuries and will appear in court facing charges relating to the crash at a later date.

Police believe speed and alcohol were a major factor in the crash.

Police are continuing their inquiries.
