Christchurch police wish to warn residents of people impersonating police officers and asking for their cash flow cards and pin numbers and cheque books. A number of these incidents have happened over the last 2 days and the offender has managed to take cards and cheques.

A police officer will always identify himself and produce his I/D card if not in uniform.

I urge people to ring police if they are unsure of the person purporting to be a police officer and not give any cards or pin numbers to them. As with banks, we will never ask for your pin numbers or cards nor will we take property without a search warrant or court orders.

Please be wary of strangers at your door and ring the police on 3637400 or 111 if urgent assistance is needed
