WELLINGTON CITY

This summer young biking enthusiasts will be able to 'push off the berms' and 'pump the rollers' at three of the city's newest purpose-built biking skills areas.

The Mt Victoria mountain bike skills area, on the Town Belt at the Newtown end of Alexandra Road, has been designed to help beginners learn some of the basic techniques required to confidently cycle off-road. From here you can follow a circuit marked 'easy' and 'intermediate' around Mt Victoria. On the hill behind Karori Park, the new 15-minute kids' circuit will help children improve their mountain biking and BMX biking skills.

The circuit starts and finishes at a picnic area and has several distinct sections of track to explore including 'The Uphill', 'The Snake' and 'The Pump Track'. From here 'Koru Track' and 'The Lazy Fern' at Makara Peak Bike Park will be the next challenge. Also, as part of the Central Park revamp, a new BMX track for young kids has been developed.
