One dead in Maitai Valley

At approximately 5.40pm Saturday 24/10/09 police were advised of a motor vehicle crash involving a 4 wheel drive vehicle. It was reported the vehicle had rolled into a river on the Maungatapu Track in the Maitai Valley, Nelson.

One of the occupants ran from the scene to raise the alarm. Emergency services rushed to the scene but access was difficult and a helicopter was dispatched. One person has been reported to have died as a result of the crash, two others have been transported to hospital.

Nelson police are investigating and the Serious Crash Unit is in attendance.
