The World Junior Badminton Championships are currently being played in Malaysia

 

The event starts with a team competition which is then followed by the individual events

 

The format of the team events is 1 x Mens Singles, 1 x Womens Singles, 1 x Womens Doubles, 1 x Mens Doubles, 1 x Mixed Doubles

 

The format of the team event is firstly group play followed by play-offs so each team gains a final placing

New Zealand was placed in Group W with world super powers China and Indonesia. Also in their group were Russia and Macau.

There are 22 teams in the team event

The seeded teams are: 1 – China, 2 – Malaysia, 3/4- India, ¾ - Thailand

 

New Zealand has finished 4th in their group of 5 and now go through to the play-offs for placings 13-16 with Vietnam, England and France

Lost to Russia 5-0

Defeated Macau 4-1
