James claims home town success in North Island BMX

Cambridge cyclist Kurt James claimed home town success when he took out the North Island BMX title today.

James won the Saturday round and finished runner-up on the second day of racing today to claim the overall honours in the elite men’s competition at Cambridge track.

Christchurch rider Matthew Davies won today’s final from James with fellow Cambridge rider Tim Ferguson third.

The other honours went offshore with Queensland’s Melinda McLeod winning the elite women’s title and Graeme Mudd (NSW) taking out the junior men’s division.

McLeod was third on the first day and dominated the second day today, winning the final convincingly to take the overall honours. She finished the final clear of Emily Allison (Cambridge) with Australia’s Michelle Montague third.

Yesterday’s winner Samantha Cools (Canada) did not compete today.

Mudd, second on Saturday, was second again today behind fellow Australian Darryn Goodwin, to grab the junior boys’ title.
