The body of a Southland fisherman missing on Lake Onslow in the Otago High Country since 2pm yesterday, (Saturday, 31 October 2009) was recovered from the lake this afternoon shortly after the Wellington based Police Dive Squad entered the water to search for him.

Police can now name the missing man as;
Kevin Donald CROAD
48 years
Resident of GORE, Southland

Mr CROAD's body was located in the lake at a depth of approximately 4 metres very near to the position where he was last seen by his companion.

Police, family and friends of Mr CROAD recommenced the search for Mr CROAD shortly after first light this morning. That search was suspended about 11.00am pending the arrival of specialist divers.

Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw said, "Although the death of Mr CROAD is a tragedy it is of some comfort to his family and friends that he could be recovered from the lake in such a timely manner. It's a tribute to all the searchers involved that this result could be achieved".

The death of Mr CROAD has been referred to the Coroner.

It is not anticipated that any further media release will be made by Police.
