BALCLUTHA

At about 12.45am on Saturday the 7th of November Police were called to an Inch Clutha address near Kaitangata where a man had been stabbed several times.

This address had been having a Guy Fawkes party with about 10 people present. An argument developed which resulted in a 29 year old Kaitangata man punching at least one female.

This caused the female's 35 year old partner to become involved.

The 29 year old offender has then produced a knife.

In the resulting struggle the 35 year old Clydevale man has been stabbed 8 times. 7 times to the upper torso and once to the face.

At some stage the offender has been hit over the head with a vacuum cleaner pipe.

During the struggle the offender's partner has intervened and tried to stop the fight. She has been stabbed by her partner once to the right elbow.

The offender has left the address with his partner only to be stopped by Police.

The victim was taken to Dunedin Hospital by Ambulance and underwent surgery this morning. At the time of writing he was in a stable condition.

The offender and his partner were also taken to Dunedin Hospital and treated. The offender has been placed under guard and will be taken into custody once cleared of his injuries.

He will be appearing before the Dunedin District Court on Monday the 9th of November, charged with Causing Grievous Bodily Harm. Further charges of Wounding with Intent to Cause GBH and Male Assaults Female are likely.

St John Ambulance and Clutha Health First staff have done very well with some intoxicated and unruly patients.
