This morning at about 0825am the body of a 26yr old man was recovered at the base of Chinaman's Bluff, an area popular with Rock Climbers, situated North of Glenorchy in the Dart River Valley.

Police had been alerted just prior to midnight that 2 climbers were overdue and a Search and Rescue Operation commenced.

Rescue workers attempted to locate the pair, using voice appeal during the Night time hours without success, and early this morning an aerial and ground search began.

The deceased was located by ground searchers at the base of the cliff in thick scrub.

The deceased man's climbing companion was airlifted, unhurt, from a small ledge, about 200m up from the base of the cliff, where he had spent the night.

The deceased mans identity will not be made available until next of kin have been advised.

The Coroner has been notified.
