WAITAKERE CITY

Police are investigating the cause of a single vehicle fatal crash which occurred at 1.50 pm on the 12th November 2009 on Te Henga Road, Waitakere.

The vehicle, which contained eight occupants had been travelling in a westerly direction on Te Henga Road when it lost control on a moderate bend, leaving the road and driving up on to the embankment, causing the 6-seater vehicle to roll upside-down.

A 20 year old female from Massey died at the scene as a result of head injuries sustained in the crash. Initial indications at the scene have led Police to believe the female was allegedly unrestrained, and that the vehicle may have been overloaded.

The seven other passengers including the 19 year old male driver were all taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Senior Constable Karl Bevin of the Waitematä Serious Crash Unit says that this highlights the importance of ensuring all occupants wear their safety belts, especially as we approach the Christmas holiday period.

Police are continuing enquiries in attempts to identify the cause of this motor vehicle crash.
