Man dead after shooting at Tauranga Hospital

Shortly after 11.40am on Saturday 21 November 2009, Police were called to the Tauranga Hospital after a report of a person being shot outside the emergency department. Hospital Doctors and Nurses immediately attended the man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite their efforts they were unable to save the man, believed to be aged 76 years. He died a short time later.

Police are not looking for any other person in relation to the shooting, the man's death has been referred to the Coroner.
