Head on crash kills motorcyclist

At approximately 7.40pm Kaikoura Police were advised of a serious vehicle crash on State Highway One 17 kms south of Kaikoura.

Arriving officers located a car and motorcycle which had collided head on. The male motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

A male passenger in the car sustained serious head injuries and was flown the Christchurch Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The driver of the car was uninjured but badly traumatised.

The name of the deceased rider has not yet been released as next of kin notification has not been completed. No further comment will be made at this time.
