Slip closes SH2

A large slip has blocked the south bound lane of State Highway 2 next to the Te Marua Lakes. Police are on scene and roading contractors are on the way to assess the current situation as the area appears at this stage to be highly unstable and further movement is possible.

Motorists should expect delays in this area and it is highly likely that the road will be closed completely in due course.

UPDATE AS OF 11.53am - both lanes of SH2 have now been closed as the danger more slips is considered imminent
