Operation Circle

Motueka Police along with the assistance of Nelson Bays Police terminated a drug operation named Operation CIRCLE this morning 16th Dec 2009. The focus of the operation was the supply and distribution of Cannabis in the Motueka District.

Police have executed a total of 23 search warrants resulting in the arrest and prosecution of 18 persons (15 males and 3 females) who will appear in the Nelson District Court over the coming 3 weeks. Between them they will face a total of 29 charges with the likelihood of more charges being laid.

The more serious charges which have been laid against the 18 persons are as follows.

3 charges of possession of cannabis for supply.
4 charges of cultivation of cannabis.
10 charges of possession of cannabis.
3 charges of possession of instruments.

During the searches 3 firearms and $7000 in cash has been seized.

Cannabis with an estimated street value of $100.000.00 has been seized.

Over 30 staff from the Nelson Bays region were involved in the termination which searched properties on the Täkaka Hill, Motueka Valley and the Motueka Township.
