Hastings youth drowns near Gisborne

Police are investigating the circumstances around the drowning of a 17yr old Hastings youth at Tatapouri Beach near Gisborne.

The youth had been scuba diving with a family member when the drowning occurred at approximately 6.00pm on Saturday afternoon.

He was brought to shore in a boat - at which time he was attended to by Ambulance staff, but had already died.

Further details surrounding the identity of the youth will be released once next of kin have been advised.
