New Year a busy time for Nelson Bays Police

Nelson Bays Police were kept very busy over the last 24 hours with a large influx of young persons camping and partying at the Maitai and Kaiteriteri motor camps as well as dealing with a number of serious offences.

Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed of Nelson Police stated that in the 24 hour period from 8am 31st December to 8 am 1st January 2010 Nelson Bays Police arrested 59 persons who have been charged with 60 offences as follows:
 attempted murder
 indecent assault
 x 3 male assaults female
 x 2 wilful damage
 x 2 trespass
 intimidation
 x 3 theft
 x 3 breach of peace
 x 10 fighting
 x 2 assault
 x 4 detox
 x 18 disorderly behaviour
 x 2 resists arrest
 x 2 assault police
 x 3 warrant to arrest
 x 4 breach of liquor ban

'In addition to those persons who have already been arrested and charged police also dealt with 14 persons for drink driving offences and are currently investigating 3 separate reported rapes and a stabbing which has us somewhat stretched at present. I am also expecting further reported offences to be made this morning when party goers awake.'

Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed said that despite the large number of offences dealt with by Nelson Bays Police he was generally pleased with the behaviour of the 3000-4000 young persons partying at the various motor camps around Nelson Bays.
