At 05:55 am on 3 January 2010 police received a report of a single vehicle crash on SH12 and Waihotu Rd, Opononi, Far North.

2 occupants are confirmed dead. Another is reported as injured.

Emergency services are responding and the Serious Crash Unit will be examining the scene.
