Fatal motor accident on SH3, Bulls

At about 11.50am today police were advised of a collision between a truck and a cyclist on SH3 about 4 k's north of Bulls. The female cyclist has died at the scene while the truck driver was not injured but obviously shaken by the incident.

The cyclist is a 19 year old German national who appears to have been on a cycling holiday around New Zealand. Interpol are arranging for her family in Germany to be advised of her death.

The road remains open while the Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit carry out an examination of the scene. It is too early to speculate the cause of the accident.
