A German tourist, who was killed on Tuesday (5 January) as she cycled along SH3 near Bulls, has been named as Mia Susanne Pusch.

Police understand that Mia, who was 19 and from Fulda in Germany, arrived in New Zealand in October and was alone. It is not known at this stage where in the country she had been or whether she had been cycling during the whole of her visit. The German Embassy has assisted Police in locating and notifying Mia's family who are said to be distraught.

The cause of the crash, which happened around 11.50am in a passing zone on SH3, is still under investigation. Police still want to hear from any motorists who were on the stretch of road between Bulls and Lake Alice on Tuesday, who saw either Mia on her bike or the yellow truck and trailer.

Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may be important to the investigation and should be passed to Marton Police on 06 327 6555.

Media enquiries should be referred to Communications Manager Kim Perks on 06 351 2546 or 027 234 8256.
