One dead in Manukau Harbour
A search is currently underway for a person missing after a boat overturned in the Manukau Harbour at about 8am today.
Three other passengers on the boat have been rescued, one of those was found in a semi-conscious state. The Westpac rescue helicopter has been called to uplift this person. The Police launch Deodar and helicopter Eagle are involved in the search, as is the Coastguard. Attempts are currently being made to upturn the vessel in shallow waters. No further details are available at this time.
Update - Unfortunately it can be confirmed that the missing person from the overturned boat on the Manukau Harbour has been found deceased inside the hull of the boat. The deceased is a Male Maori aged approximately 50 years old. It is understood that a wave swept him and another crew member into the cabin of the boat. The three survivors have been taken to hospital for treatment. No details have been obtained as to their ages or as to how the boat overturned.
