Crash closes Port Waikato Road

A two car crash has occurred on the Tuakau Bridge - Port Waikato Road, Onewhero, between Frost & Kohanga Road. The road is currently closed while emergency services work to free a trapped woman. One of the vehicles left the road and landed in a ditch which has 1mtr of water in it. The woman has leg & pelvic injuries. No additional details are known at this time.

Update 2.21pm - The trapped woman has now been freed from the vehicle. The road is expected to remain closed for at least the next hour while the Police Serious Crash Unit investigates the cause.

Final Update - It has been confirmed that this was a two vehicle crash.  One lane is now open to traffic with the other lane expected to open shortly.  Injuries to the woman are serious but confined to her legs and pelvis.
