Second Hand Sunday

Central Hawke’s Bay citizens looking to clean out the garage or get something for nothing have the perfect opportunity on Sunday 14 February 2010 between 9am – 2pm when

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council holds the sixth annual “Second-hand Sunday” event.

Citizens can place items they no longer want on their driveway or beside their letterbox so that members of the public can collect them for re-use.

Waste Minimisation Officer, Ann Strong said, “Everybody can take part – town, rural, and in between – and please remember that you can either be there to keep an eye on things, or simply put the stuff out and forget about it until 2.00pm – when anything left over should be brought back inside. Usually though – there isn’t anything left over!”

Ann also said to please respect other people’s property, take care when parking your vehicle, and watch out for children when crossing roads.

To increase chances of items being collected, Ann says interested people can register their address with Council, and a list of addresses (not names) will be printed in the CHB Mail one week prior to the Second-hand Sunday. People must register before 4 February 2010.

Second Hand Sunday is just one way of reusing tired junk and clearing a space in that shed.
