As a territorial authority within the Hawkeââ‚¬â„¢s Bay region, we are responsible for a population of 13,000 an area covering 3200 square kilometres The Council will consist of a Mayor and eight councillors. Each Councillor represents one of two wards: Ruahine & Aramoana now combined into the Rural Ward and Ruataniwha now called the Urban Ward.. Councillors are elected by voters of their respective ward. The Mayor is elected 'at large' (electors of the whole district). The term is for three years. The next triennial election will take place in October 2007. The regionââ‚¬â„¢s ââ‚¬Å“bread and butterââ‚¬Â is still sheep and beef farming, pip and stone fruit, vegetable and grain crops, and dairy farming. However, non-traditional industries are being explored and finding success including top quality vineyards (part of our wonderful Hawke's Bay Wine Country). Our communities include Tikokino Ongaonga Takapau Otane Porangahau Waipukurau Waipawa The localities of Patangata, Kairakau, Elsthorpe, Oueroa, Omakere, Wanstead, Wallingford, Flemington, Mangaorapa, Ashley Clinton, Makaretu, Argyll, Pukehou and Aramoana.

Still danger at CHB Beaches after flooding
Dead stock and unstable slips are just two reasons to be very careful when accessing Central Hawke’s Bay beaches especially Pourerere, Aramoana, Parimahu and Blackhead beaches after the recent major flood event.

CHB Annual Plan balances the budget

Waipukurau continues with Fluoridation
After a thorough consultation process with the local community, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council has decided to continue to fluoridate the Waipukurau water supply.
Knocking down walls
On 25 November 2009, a wall will be knocked down at the Waipukurau Library to make room for a bigger area for children and a specific place for teenagers.
